The 51st annual Drosophila Research Conference will be April 7-11 in Washington DC. We will submit an abstract for a poster in the new "educational initiatives" section. This will be essentially on the material in the CBE-LSE manuscript. The abstract is posted on the private wiki for your comments. All GEP members attending the meeting are eligible to be co-authors - notify me by November 30.
I will also have an undergraduate submitting a poster on her analysis of the "wanderer genes," those that have moved on and off the dot chromosome in a comparison of D melanogaster and D virilis. The registration fee for undergraduates is very reasonable ($25 in advance), so some of you in the area might also want to consider having submissions including your students, directed at specific aspects of the work on your campus. Undergrads can compete for a platform slot in the Undergraduate Workshop; GEP member Alexis Nagengast is one of the workshop organizers this year. If you are interested in doing this, please add a post to this section of the wiki.
