OS X 10.6

I install the phred/phrap/consed package from GEP on student's macbooks if they are interested. I've had no problem with 10.4 or 10.5, but it appears that 10.6 doesn't actually have the "local" folder to put the genome folder into. Can I just make a "local" folder & put it in, or are there yet, still more underlying issues with 10.6? Anyone run this all successfully on 10.6?

The "local" directory should be inside /usr/ if X11 is installed on your Mac OS 10.6 computer. Hence the first thing to check is to verify that X11 is installed on the computer (you should find the program inside the "Utilities" folder). If X11 is installed and you cannot find the "local" directory, you can manually create this folder inside /usr/.
Please note that Chris is in the process of testing the Consed installation procedures on Mac OS 10.6 and we have not yet verified that the installation package is compatible with 10.6 systems. However, my understanding is that there are no major changes to X11 in 10.6 compared to 10.5. Consequently, the installation instructions for 10.5 should also apply to 10.6.
