Increasing enrollment

During the alumni workshop this summer there was some discussion about the best way to attract students to our courses. One excellent suggestion was to "recruit" from a logical feeder course. A colleague teaches a course entitled Genomics during our winter quarter, I intend to ask if I can visit his...

Lessons learned

I was not sure which area was the best for this post but this one certainly should be ok. I think the most important lesson our students learned this quarter was that they needed to be resourceful and relentless in their annotion efforts. On many occasions we, the TAs and I, were told by students th...

No scaffold number? No problem.

After a bit of messing around we discovered (or remembered) the UCSC Genome Browser mirrored at Wash U. There we could enter a fosmid number, rather than a scaffold number, for either of our two D. mojavensis annotation projects and we received a meaningful result. Consequently, Ashlee, your problem...

Thank you

Thank you both for the replies. I was sort of stuck Monday in class when I handed out the exercise but got caught without the needed file. Peace and harmony have been restored, for the time being.

file for BLAST homework

While my students are awaiting new sequence data we are trying to complete the BLAST exercise Sally has provided (and mentioned in her recent message). However, we do not seem to have access to the needed file, namely simBLAST_EST.tar.gz. Does anyone know where we can get it?

Thanks,

Gary

Who has claimed which projects?

It would be useful to be able to identify who claimed which projects. If we could do that we could contact individuals who are working on the same projects as our students so we could share experiences and learn from each other. I do not believe that this function is currently available but would we...
